1924 is the year captain Giannis Lagos arrived from Aivali to Naxos. He brought his family with him and started a new well-routed life here, that flourished by the captainís love for tradition and his outgoing, open-minded spirit. The 1924 restaurant embodies the same values today: a deep respect for Naxian tradition and an authentic cuisine that reflects the creative spirit of our executive Chef Konstantinos Bourantas. Exchanging in 2017 the vibrant capital of Europe, Brussels for the enchanting island of Syros where the elements sun, sea, simplicity are a vital role in his daily life. In his timelessly beautiful garden restaurant ‘AvantGarden’, guests can enjoy his creative dishes existing of fresh, local and Greek products. His techniques, skills and flavour combinations play the main role in his cuisine where simplicity of different food elements are served in a sophisticated and refined manner. Dining is an experience where art and flavour become one.
Our Restaurant, is operating everyday from 12am – 11:30pm, serving fresh cooked dishes based on traditional products, which we obtain by daily by local producers, as well as Mr. Stelios Lagos’ fishing boat. The well-known Naxian products, pure and natural, such as the mouth watering local cheese, delicious meat, organic vegetables and aromatic herbs, are the canvas for a contemporary Greek cuisine inspired by traditional recipes.
We are proud for our membership to the “ Greek Breakfast” program that allows us to offer to our guests the perfect start for a glorious vacation day, tasting the best local Naxian Products and experiencing the gastronomic wealth of an island that embodies all the advantages of the healthy Mediterranean diet. The Eastern Star Bar
Eastern Star –Anatolikos Astir-, was the name of Mr. Lagos’ first boat, that back in 1924, brought his family safe to the island of Naxos. The joyful arrival to Naxos was celebrated with a bottle of wine; the family, standing on the wooden deck of the Eastern Star, raised their glasses and toasted to health, love, prosperity and a happy life in Naxos…
Ninety three years later we still raise our glasses on the Eastern Star deck: Here, at the Lagos Mare Hotel outdoor bar, we are keen on enjoying aperitifs and bespoke cocktails that match the amazing orange-pink colors of the Naxian sunsets.
